British Postal Museum relocate to Swindon
The British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA) has signed an option agreement to acquire a Grade II listed building in Swindon to house its museum and archive facility which is currently located in central London.
BPMA has an option to purchase the Chain Testing Building which is part of the former railway works in Kemble Drive, a major regeneration area in Swindon. The complex, adjacent to the main railway station and within walking distance to the town centre, is already home to the National Trust HQ, the English Heritage Archives and the Steam Museum. The Freeport Designer Outlet Village developed by McArthur Glen occupies the adjoining site.
Thomas Homes, the current owners, plan to develop the remaining land as a mixed use scheme including offices, a hotel and residential with work scheduled to start in January 2010.
Bournelodge, the development and consultancy business run by Paul Bewers, represented BPMA.
BPMA’s move to Swindon will bring a much needed boost to Swindon which has suffered badly from the economic downturn.
